New Engine Family at Audi Hungaria

• Serial production of 3-cylinder engines launched in Győr

Győr, 16 May 2018—The serial production of the first 3-cylinder engine was started today at Audi Hungaria. With their 63- and 85-kW performance, the 1.0-liter Otto-engines are the new efficient and high-performance prime movers from Győr.

“Our engine production flexibly prepares for the new trends of vehicle production”, Achim Heinfling, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI HUNGARIA Zrt said. “Beside launching the production of alternative drive systems we are also continuously developing our combustion engines. With the serial production of the new 3-cylinder engine, our product portfolio is extended with a new, efficient and high-performance prime mover.”

The efficient and environmentally friendly operation of the 3-cylinder engine is ensured by innovative solutions including a turbo charger of higher performance or a particle filter positioned near the engine, which reduces the particle emission of DI-Otto engines by 90%. And that’s not all: the 3-cylinder engine only weighs 92 kg.

The 3-cylinder engine will be built into various models of the Volkswagen Concern including Audi A3, Volkswagen Golf, Seat Leon or Seat Ateca.

Audi Hungaria has even remodeled the area of mechanical works and the production line to make them fit for the production of the 3-cylinder engines. As a result, 4 different engine variants can be manufactured on the most flexible production line of the Audi Concern: apart from the 3-cylinder variant, which was launched now, currently the 1.2-, the 1.4- and the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder Otto-engines will be produced on this line.

“With the help of 6000 coworkers we manufacture about 2 million engines each year, which makes us one of the largest engine manufacturers in the world”, Herbert Steiner, Member of the Board of Management for Engine Production of AUDI HUNGARIA Zrt said. “Currently we are manufacturing 3-, 4-, 5-, 6, 8- and 10-cylinder engines for 32 sites of the Volkswagen Concern.”

In 2018, the product portfolio of Audi Hungaria will be further extended: the production of innovative e-engines will be started soon. The preparations for serial production are going on at full speed.
