Győr, 19 February 2018—An Anniversary Year has begun for Audi Hungaria: Audi officially established its Győr subsidiary right 25 years ago, on 18 February 1993. Audi Hungaria has been a success story ever since, and the story will continue this year. At the anniversary press conference, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Zsolt Borkai, the Mayor of the City of Győr and Achim Heinfling, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI HUNGARIA Zrt. praised the successes the engine and vehicle factory has achieved in Hungary.

“Audi Hungaria means innovation for 25 years now. I proudly look back on the achievements of the company and the performance of my colleagues, and I am looking forward to the next 25 years”, said Achim Heinfling, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI HUNGARIA Zrt. “We are a decisive actor of the Hungarian economy and we are shaping the future with our committed work.” Audi Hungaria will start a new era in the year of the anniversary in two areas: As of 2018, the brand’s first Hungarian manufactured SUV models, the Audi Q3 are rolling off the assembly lines in Győr. The portfolio of engine production is enhanced with an important strategic area, namely the production of Audi’s electric drive systems called e-tron. “With these projects we ensure the long-term success of our company”, Achim Heinfling continues.

Ever since its establishment, a total of 33,294,371 engines have been manufactured at Audi Hungaria, which is equivalent to 5.6 billion horsepower. Since 1998, 1,153,531 vehicles have left the Győr plant. If all these cars were lined up next to each other, they would reach from Győr to Dakar, Senegal.

Audi Hungaria has also reached high production volumes in the year 2017: A total of 1,965,165 engines were manufactured at Audi Hungaria last year, including 1,073,998 three- and four-cylinder Otto engines, 404,796 four-cylinder diesel engines, 260,324 six-cylinder Otto engines and 174,352 diesel engines. Furthermore, 14,640 of the award-winning 5-cylinder Otto-engines have also rolled off the assembly lines. These engines won the “International Engine of the Year” Award for the 8th time in a row. In addition, 36,757 eight- and ten-cylinder engines have been manufactured in Győr and, in the preparation phase for serial production, 298 electric engines have also been prepared. With these results, Audi Hungaria continues to be one of the world’s largest engine factories.

Our colleagues at the engine production department have implemented eight product phase-in projects including the 2.0-liter CNG-engine, which was developed under the management of Audi Hungaria. The first Győr-manufactured CNG engines will be built into the Audi A5 g-tron and the A4 Avant g-tron models.

In 2017, Audi Hungaria delivered its high-performance and efficient engines to 32 plants of the Volkswagen Concern.

In the area of vehicle production, a total of 105,491 Audi models rolled off the assembly lines in 2017. Audi A3 Limousines were manufactured in the largest volumes: a total of 72,433 vehicles. Of Audi TT models, which have been manufactured exclusively in Győr for 20 years, 17,568 Coupés and 4,606 Roadsters have been manufactured at Audi Hungaria.

In addition, 10,716 Audi A3 Cabriolet models were made in 2017, and 168 Audi Q3 models in the preparation phase for serial production.

Furthermore, last year our colleagues successfully launched the serial production of the sporty Audi RS 3 Limousine.

Győr-manufactured four-ring models make it to more than 90 countries worldwide. Again, their largest markets were the USA, the United Kingdom and Germany in 2017.

On 31 December 2017, 12,307 employees were employed at Audi Hungaria in Győr. The company is planning to employ more colleagues this year.

The anniversary year of 2018 is very promising for Audi Hungaria: namely, the production of the Audi Q3 will be commenced. And, for this purpose, a new 80,000-m2 body factory has been built and 700 robots have already been commissioned in Győr. Our colleagues are also preparing for the serial production of the new model: they have participated in several professional training and further training programs. The serial production of electric drive systems will be launched in Győr as a decisive project of the future. This will make Audi Hungaria the center of e-engine production within the Audi Concern and, by introducing electromobility, it will open up new horizons for the Hungarian automotive industry. Electric drive systems will be built in a modular production system. This whole new concept will enable more flexibility and efficiency.

Audi Hungaria does not only manufacture engines and automobiles in Hungary: as one of the biggest investors and employers in Hungary, it is a major actor of Hungarian economy and plays a decisive role in the life of the Győr region as well. The company provides employment opportunities directly or indirectly to 30,000 people altogether. Social responsibility and sustainability are deeply rooted in the company’s corporate strategy. In this spirit, Audi Hungaria is highly committed to supporting the cultural, social and sport life of the region.

The 25-year anniversary will be accompanied by colorful events all year. Today, Audi Hungaria greets its first employees, who have been working for the success of the company since 1993. In the spring, the company will organize a 25-km run for its employees and in the summer, it will open up for the public. In the autumn, Audi Hungaria will celebrate its anniversary with a prestigious event, with the participation of representatives from the areas of politics, economy and social life.
