Audi Hungaria Tool Shop and Technical Developments Enhanced

Győr, 05 July 2017—The Tool Shop of Audi Hungaria has been enhanced by an area of 15,000 m² and four new press machines, each with a pressing power up to 2,500 tons. The testing portfolio of the Department of Vehicle Development has also been broadened with new testing equipment for vehicles and parts.

“In order to maintain our competitiveness, we have further enhanced our two main business areas: the Tool Shop and the Department of Technical Development. Beside engine and vehicle production, these two areas of competence are of outstanding importance for us”, Peter Kössler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI HUNGARIA Zrt. said. “As a result of the developments, both our efficiency and performance potential have been increased, which is an important step towards the future.”

During the enhancement of the Tool Shop, the Department of Exclusive Series Production was enhanced by highly flexible standardized production cells and two high performance press machines, so there are now five press machines working at that area. Two further press machines were commissioned at the Tool Shop, so now there are five high performance press machines working at that area, too. Furthermore, the first high speed processing center of the Volkswagen Group was commissioned here, with linear propulsion technology to support innovative and efficient production processes.

Ever since the Tool Shop of Audi Hungaria was established in 2005, not only tools for the Press and Body Shop has been manufactured here, but components and body parts for the exclusive and sports models of the Audi and the Volkswagen Group as well. Currently there are 650 employees working at an area of more than 50,000 m², manufacturing products for the whole Volkswagen Group.

The Department of Vehicle Development has further enhanced its competences. New testing equipment was commissioned to test vehicles and parts. On a testing bench, which is unique in Hungary, the experts at Audi Hungaria can test vehicles for energy management, static and acoustic properties. During the test, vehicles can be accelerated up to 280 km/h on a simulated road without traveling a single meter.

On the new testing equipment for engine parts, the full lifecycle of a vehicle can be simulated within two days. This enables quick static testing of parts produced at Audi Hungaria, including crank rods or camshafts.

Currently there are 85 highly skilled employees, mostly engineers, working at the Department of Vehicle Development. The main activity is hands-on vehicle development: supporting the phase-in of models made at Audi Hungaria, as well as engine and vehicle analyses to simulate regular customer usage. Numerical simulations and special experiments are also performed. At the testing laboratory of the Department of Vehicle Development, experts of Audi Hungaria can test the acoustic, static and energy management properties of any Audi model.
