• One millionth car rolls off the production line

Győr, 18 January 2017 – AUDI HUNGARIA Zrt. has closed a successful fiscal year for 2016, with 1,926,638 engines manufactured. The past year saw 122,975 cars roll off the production line. That significant production volume allowed Audi Hungaria to retain is stability in 2016, and continue being one of the key manufacturing bases in the Audi Concern. Premium quality is the key principle at the Győr factory: The Audi TT RS received the “Innovation of the Year” award in March. The award-winning car has a 2.5 litre, five-cylinder TFSI engine that delivers 400bhp, which was recognised with the “International Engine of the Year” title for the seventh time in 2016. Audi Hungaria currently has 11,631 employees.

“We demonstrated consistency in keeping our productivity, stability and innovation goals in 2016, and concluded the year with a high production volume despite numerous challenges, including new product ramp-ups in vehicle and engine production. I am happy that, great anniversaries aside, we also started serial production of new models, the Audi TT RS among them. Our outstanding milestones include the production of the thirty millionth engine and the one millionth car,” Peter Kössler, the company’s Chairman of the Board of Management, said.

“Multiple new and innovative solutions were introduced at Audi Hungaria, and will set us on the path to producing smart cars in the future. Our company’s vision is outstanding, and I can continue to count on the commitment and loyalty of our employees,” Mr Kössler continued.

Engine production saw the manufacturing of 1,461,618 four cylinder Otto and diesel engines, as well as 9,113 five-cylinder Otto engines. In addition, 418,207 six-cylinder and 37,700 eight- and ten-cylinder engines left the production line.

Audi Hungaria manufactured six different Otto and five different diesel engine variants in 2016, with output ranging between 63kW (86bhp) and 449kW (610bhp).

Engine production in Győr supplies engines to some 30 vehicle production sites in the Volkswagen Concern, across three continents.

A total of 122,975 cars were manufactured in vehicle production, with a share of 21,562 Audi TT Coupés, 5,324 TT Roadsters, 81,060 A3 Limousines and 15,029 A3 Cabriolets. The RS models, with 1,091 units made in total, made their debut in 2016, as did the remodelled Audi A3 Limousine and A3 Cabriolet.

Electro-mobility has arrived at Audi Hungaria. Electric drive engines for the Audi Concern’s electric vehicles will be produced in Győr from 2018, increasing the company’s current engine portfolio.

The competence centre necessary for manufacturing E-engines has already been built, and preparations for serial production are well on the way.

Production of another new model for Audi Hungaria, the Audi Q3, is also set to begin at the company in the future. To do this, new chassis plant with a floor area of 80,000 square metres will be established. The first machines are to be installed at the start of March 2017. Eventually, there will be around 700 robots in operation there.
