• Over a million engines and 60,000 vehicles made in Győr

Győr, 29 July 2016—With its 11,400 employees, AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. produced more than a million engines and 64,000 vehicles in Győr in the first half of 2016. The company is preparing for the future with long-term investments focused on digitalization.
“With our great cars and efficient engines, again, we have contributed to the overall results of the Audi Concern a great deal in the first half of 2016”, Peter Kössler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria said. “Our strength is that we respond flexibly to market changes and prepare our company for the future.” The construction of the new body workshop has begun in Győr, which is the first step towards the production of the Audi Q3. Furthermore, Audi Hungaria is also expanding its tool factory. “Our colleagues have delivered an excellent performance in the first half. Now we have a really bright outlook for the future”, Peter Kössler continued.
Again, the Engine Production department of Audi Hungaria has exceeded the one-million limit in the first half by producing 1,031,887 engines (1,067,525 in the same period last year). Our colleagues at the Engine Production department have made 795,216 (816,965) four- and five-cylinder Otto- and diesel engines, 219,252 (227,952) six-cylinder engines and 17,419 (22,608) eight- and ten-cylinder engines altogether. The engines manufactured in Győr are built into various Audi, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen, Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini models at over 30 production sites worldwide.
The production of the newly developed V8 TDI engine also began in the first half. This engine had its debut in the new Audi SQ7 TDI. Our engineers have also increased the performance of the 2.5-liter five-cylinder Otto engine by 17%. This engine has now won the award “International Engine of the Year” for the seventh time in a row.
At the department of vehicle production, 63,798 (84,888) vehicles rolled off the production lines including 11,254 (14,353) Audi TT Coupé, 3,432 (4,582) TT Roadster, 40,377 (53,700) A3 Limousine and 8,735 (12,253) A3 Cabriolet models.
The first half of the year 2016 was hallmarked by the upgrade of the most popular models: the A3 Limousine and the A3 Cabriolet and related rebuild processes, as well as the preparation phase of the series production of the new Audi TT RS.
The renewed Audi A3 family including the Audi A3 Limousine and Cabriolet was introduced to the public in April. The series production of the new Audi A3 models has already begun at the Vehicle Production department of Audi Hungaria. The first vehicles have already been handed over to their new owners.
A new body workshop is being built on an area of 80,000 square meters for the production of Audi Q3. This model will also be manufactured in Győr in the future. The production hall will be completed by the end of the year. The internal works will begin afterwards.
The Tool Factory of Audi Hungaria will be expanded by 15,000 square meters. In the future, among others, body parts of the exclusive and sport models of the Audi and Volkswagen concern including side panels, fenders, engine covers, doors and roofs will be manufactured on an area of more than 50,000 square meters.
The revenue of AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. reached € 3,697 (4,147) million in the first half. The company has invested € 133 (235) million in Győr, most of which was spent on the introduction of the new engine variants. With this sum, the total investments have reached € 8,140 billion since 1993, when the company was established.
Audi Hungaria supports the education and training of experts with several programs. The company launched dual higher education training in electrical engineering and arranged everything for the first autumn semester in cooperation with the Széchenyi István University. As a result, young students can commence their dual higher education training in electrical engineering at the Széchenyi István University from September. This is already the second dual higher education training course at the university of Győr besides the dual vehicle engineering training which is available since 2015.
Audi Hungaria welcomed many new colleagues in the first half.
On 30 June 2016, 11,370 (11,342) employees were employed in Győr. Including the suppliers, the company grants about 30,000 jobs, mostly in the Győr region.
