Audi Hungaria Benefits from Expansion of Győr-Pér Airport

Győr, 17 April 2015 – Following the completion of the 2014 expansion works, Győr-Pér Airport is back to running at full capacity. Flight safety has been significantly increased due to an extension of the runway and the installation of an Instrument Landing System as well as a new improved lighting system, all part of a EUR 6.69 million project. Last year, 33,000 passengers were transported between the Győr and Ingolstadt locations of Audi.

“Győr-Pér Airport is of strategic importance for Audi Hungaria,” said Dr. h.c. Thomas Faustmann, Audi Hungaria’s Chairman of the Board of Management. “The airport makes our company premises much more easily accessible, and it also strengthens the region’s competitiveness. By operating this airport, we gain long-term advantages in an industry where speed is strategically important.”

The operator, Győr-Pér Repülőtér Kft. was established in 2003, and since then it has seen continuous development thanks to the support provided by its owners. As a result of the recent expansion, the airport is now capable of accommodating Boeing 737 and Airbus A 320 passenger airplanes. The airport’s freight traffic increased by 64% in 2014, but the 3,000 sport planes and other light aircraft which used the airport in 2014 also represent a 45% increase in numbers compared to the previous year. More than 70% of the airport’s annual net sales revenue for last year came from services rendered to Audi.

The airport provides a bus transfer service between Pér and Audi Hungaria. It also operates a fleet of nearly 100 passenger cars which ensure that guests arriving by plane can travel in comfort to their destination.

Thanks to the successful cooperation between the Hungarian State, the town of Győr and Audi Hungaria, the expanded commercial airport closed its 2014 business year with a profit.
