Győr, 15 November 2014 – Győr city and AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. celebrate together once again: today Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, Zsolt Borkai, Mayor of Győr city, Dr. h.c. Thomas Faustmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria as well as Anita Görbicz, captain of AUDI ETO KC team inaugurated the Audi Aréna Győr hall close to one year after the cornerstone ceremony. This multifunctional hall can accommodate up to 5 500 viewers and will be host to international sport and cultural events, such as concerts and exhibitions.
“Today, a big dream came true in Győr. Entirely new perspectives are opened up for our city by the completion of the Audi Aréna Győr. Within the walls of the new multifunctional hall, our colourful cultural programmes and sports successes may now unfold in a worthy environment”, said Zsolt Borkai, Mayor of Győr city, who expressed his gratitude for the subsidy worth almost 5 billion given by the Hungarian State covering the investment. “Something always happens in Győr of which we can be proud, nonetheless, this day is a milestone in the life of all our citizens, athletes, fans and culture enthusiasts. Once again we made a great step in building our future as the Audi Aréna Győr increases our city’s attractiveness, competitiveness and colourfulness not only at home but abroad as well.”

As part of the inauguration ceremony the Ballet Company of Győr – celebrating its 35th anniversary – gave an exclusive performance after which the audience saw off the players of Győri Audi ETO KC who travelled to Zagreb for their upcoming champions league game. The programme came to a close with the super concert of Magdi Rúzsa which saw the premiere of a song that was inspired by the success and the talent of the handball girls. The Audi Aréna Győr debuts as a sports hall on the upcoming women’s champions league game on November 23, and starting from 7 December it will be a five star residence for the women’s European handball championship and the games of the Hungarian national team during group stage.
On behalf of the talents taking possession of the hall Görbicz Anita stated: “It is a fantastic feeling to stand here in this wonderful hall, we have been waiting for this moment for so long. All citizens of Győr and the lovers of Hungarian sports and culture will take much pleasure in this hall. We are proud that this hall will be our future home, where we can play our games. We thank Győr for being such a welcoming home for sports and for our team. It is our desire to fill this new arena with numerous goals, victories and joyful moments.”

The engine and car factory has been the main sponsor of the world-famous Ballet Company of Győr and starting in 2006, the company became name giving main sponsor of the double champions league winner Győr Audi ETO handball team. In addition the company supports the ETO FC football team, Győr, since 2011.
