New Wind Tunnel at Audi Hungaria

2014. 10. 10.

• Quality control at top level
• Dr. h.c. Thomas Faustmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria: “Ideal conditions for ensuring ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’”

Győr, 10 October 2014 – New winds are blowing for quality at Audi Hungaria as a wind tunnel is added to the Győr production plant’s quality assurance system. Located in a 250 square metre building, the wind tunnel will be used by engineers to perform important tests and measurements on the models produced in Győr.

“The new wind tunnel is an especially useful tool for quality control. It will enable us to examine various aeroacoustic factors which are important for our customers and to continuously optimize our products. This way our cutting-edge wind tunnel will provide ideal conditions for continuously ensuring ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’,” Dr. h.c. Thomas Faustmann, Chairman of the Board of Management emphasized.

Inside the wind tunnel, a three ton ventilation fan accelerates air to 160 km/h, the speed of a hurricane. Audi Hungaria’s engineers use these conditions to analyze characteristics such as the total noise level inside a car. At present the quality assurance experts are using the new tool to test the models produced in Győr, the Audi A3 Limousine, the Audi A3 Cabriolet and the Audi TT Coupé. Later this year testing will begin on the Audi TT Roadster, another model to be produced entirely in Győr.

The wind tunnel tests help optimize cars and increase Audi customer satisfaction as lower wind resistance reduces fuel consumption and enhances performance and driving comfort.
