• Strengthening cooperation between Széchenyi István University and the AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft.
• The new lab of Vehicle Development Department assists university education
• The development of academic ties provides graduate labour supply

Győr, 18 September 2014- The Széchenyi István University campus has been expanded with a lab equipped with cutting-edge measuring devices. Prof. Dr. Péter Földesi, rector of Széchenyi István University, and Thomas Faustmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria, opened the new research centre at the Vehicle Development Department. Lab experiments will expand the university's training portfolio and contribute to the further refinement of the Audi models produced in Győr.

"The new lab installation makes the scientific cooperation between Audi Hungaria and Széchenyi István University even tighter," said Thomas Faustmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria at the opening ceremony. "The educational infrastructure in close proximity to the company creates ideal conditions for us to further examine the development opportunities of our cars, and to realize scientific projects. In this way we enable students to familiarize themselves with Audi technology even before graduation. With the knowledge gained, they may take the first step towards the Audi Hungaria career path."

"Our University and Audi Hungaria have been strategic partners from the beginning, from which both of us can profit," stressed Prof. Dr. Péter Földesi, rector of Széchenyi István University. "Projects launched together are excellent examples for linking theory and practice. The new lab will create the opportunity for our students to carry out their research at a high level, and to participate effectively in international student competitions. It will help the Győr-based university to get closer to its ambitious goal of becoming one of the leading teaching and research institutions in the region."

The Vehicle Development Department set up not even a year ago is was immediately expanded with a 300m2 high-tech lab. Students can carry out acoustics, thermal and vibration tests with the special cutting-edge equipment. The measured values can be evaluated at high-performance workstations, and they can also perform simulations. In addition, the research centre features offices for the teachers and its own workshop.

The innovative analysing and measuring equipment not only contribute to the specialization of training and to improving research in the field of vehicle development, but the facilities will serve as a venue for other academic projects, as well. In this context, for example, the "Arrabona Racing" Formula Student team also found a new home here. Founded in early 2014 and supported ever since by the Department of Vehicle Development, the team will continue the development of its highly successful Formula One racing car in the new research centre.

In addition to the Vehicle Development Department of Széchenyi István University, Audi Hungaria operates three other departments at the Faculty of Engineering: the Department of Materials Science and Technology, the Department of Internal Combustion Engines and the Vehicle Manufacturing Department.
