Audi Hungaria promotes the development of Győr-Pér airport

2013. 02. 11.

• Enhancing operations and aviation safety
• Securing the airport’s future
• Exemplary cooperation involving the state government, Győr Local Government and Audi Hungaria

The expansion of Pér airport has begun: the project aims at enhancing operations and aviation safety. AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft., the Hungarian government and the Local Government of Győr are cooperating closely to achieve this common goal. In accordance with this, the ownership status of the company operating the airport has changed. Audi offers safe and predictable utilisation for the next ten years, thus strategically securing the future of the airport.

“We have been partners with the airport in Pér for ten years now. At present 30 passenger planes per week travel back and forth between Ingolstadt/Manching and Pér with Audi AG employees on board,” says Thomas Faustmann, Chief Executive Officer of Audi Hungaria. “The expansion increases the importance of the quick and efficient organisation of official trips.  Proof of this is the fact that the volume of passenger traffic reached 30,000 persons in 2012.”

According to Zsolt Borkai, Mayor of Győr, the expansion is a good example of the power of collective thinking and the excellent collaboration involving the state, the local government and Audi Hungaria. “The expansion of the airport raises the economic development of Győr and its surroundings into an entirely new dimension, enriching infrastructure and further enhancing the chances of Győr as a tourist destination. This development serves the interests of the region, the city and especially of the people living here and the companies operating here,” added the Mayor.

Expansion work will begin this month and the airport is expected to be put into operation in the middle of 2013.

As part of the development project, the 30 metre wide runway will be extended from 1450 to 2030 metres in length and 100 metres of new safety zone will be constructed at each end. The taxiway will be widened from 10.5 to 15 metres, and a new ILS will be built. Airport maintenance and servicing capacities will be extended and the airport will receive a new hangar and apron.

On completion, the airport will be able to accommodate Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 category aircraft.
