• Audi Board Member for Production Frank Dreves: “Audi Hungaria is a key cornerstone in our growth strategy.”
• More than 900 new employees already on board
• Construction work in full swing
An important milestone: Ten months after the laying of the foundation stone, AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. celebrated the roofing ceremony for its new automobile plant today. In addition to György Matolcsy, Hungary’s Minister of National Economy, and Győr’s mayor Zsolt Borkai, the ceremony was also attended by Frank Dreves, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Production and Chairman of the Supervisory Commission of
AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft.; Axel Strotbek, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Finance and Organization; and the managing directors of Audi Hungaria.
“Everything began some 20 years ago with a single engine factory. Now an automobile production plant with a complete process chain and ultra-modern technologies is being constructed here. In its quest for utmost quality and precision, Audi Hungaria has long since become a strong member of the Audi family and makes an enormous contribution to our growth,” says Audi Board Member for Production Frank Dreves of Audi Hungaria’s wide-ranging commitment. He also underscored how the new production facility helps to conserve resources. For example, the paint shop will be the cleanest in the industry – a major step on the way to a CO2-neutral factory.
“Construction work is proceeding at a rapid pace. We are confident of being able to complete the automobile plant on time,” says Thomas Faustmann, Managing Director of Audi Hungaria. “The passion demonstrated by our employees and the trust AUDI AG has placed in the company’s ability to perform provide an excellent basis for this.”
Thanks to the work of all of the companies and planners involved, the buildings were already “weatherproofed” by late 2011. The machines are now being set up and the building technology installed in the halls.
An automobile production plant with a complete process chain – from a press shop, body shop and paint shop all the way to an assembly hall – is being built at the Győr site. The company plans to invest more than €900 million in expansion of the plant. Starting in 2013, Győrwill produce 125,000 automobiles per year. The first model will be an A3 derivative.
According to a survey conducted by the consulting firm Aon Hewitt and the international student organization AIESEC, Audi is the most attractive employer in Hungary. With its investment in the new automobile plant, Audi will create 2,100 new jobs in the long-term future. “We are already moving full speed ahead with recruiting and training of our new employees; more than 900 workers are already on board,” says Ulrich Minke, Managing Director of Vehicle Production at Audi Hungaria. “We will produce the first pre-production vehicles before the end of the year.”
In addition to expansion of the plant, engine production is also growing at a rapid pace: Audi is increasing production volume and producing new engine variants and entirely new engines. In the first quarter, 522,010 engines rolled off the assembly line (up 11 percent) as well as 11,253 units of the Audi TT, the A3 Cabriolet and the Audi RS 3 Sportback.
