• Efficient power source for each model of the Volkswagen conglomerate
The 10 millionth four-cylinder Otto-cycle engine has been manufactured at AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. The power source is a 2.0 litre Global Engine with Audi Valvelift System (variable valve control, AVS) technology and 155 kW (211 HP) performance. The Grand Anniversary engine will be installed in an Audi Q5 to be sold in the Indian market.
“The success story of Audi Hungaria began with the mass production of four-cylinder Otto-cycle engines. Presently, 3000 units of these premium quality power sources are manufactured daily. We can thank the dedication and extraordinary flexibility of our employees for this accomplishment” said Achim Heinfling, the Managing Director of Audi Hungaria, responsible for engine manufacturing. “Our goal is to offer our customers products with state-of-the-art technology by continuously expanding our selection of products.”
The 2.0 litre Grand Anniversary Global Engine’s AVS technology utilizes a simple method to enable the variable opening of the valves. A positive effect of the valve control is that in addition to a significant increase in torque, fuel consumption is decreased.
Out of the company’s 7,300 employees, 1,400 work at Audi Hungaria’s four-cylinder Otto-cycle manufacturing site, where on a daily basis 100 variants of the R4 Otto-cycle engines are built. They range in performance between 86 and 272 horse power. These power plants are installed into more than 20 models of the Volkswagen conglomerate.
The mass production of the four-cylinder five-valve engines began in 1994. Currently, 270 engine variants - from four-cylinder engines all the way to twelve-cylinder ones - are built on the Győr production lines; their performance is in the 55 kW (75 HP) to 419 kW (570 HP) range. By the end of October 2011, over 1,580,000 engines were manufactured. Consequently, since commencing engine production, over 21 million engines have left the production lines at the Győr facility.
