• Transfer of special engineering studies
• An investment in future over 1.2 bn HUF
• Frank Dreves, member of Audi AG’s Board of Directors responsible for production and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft: “The co-operation between Széchenyi István University and the city of Győr is exemplary “
A new technology development has been added to the wealth of the Audi Hungaria Internal-Combustion Engines Department of the Széchenyi István University. The new building was inaugurated today with the symbolic press of a button. With this, the joint project of the AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft, the city of Győr and the Széchenyi István University was closed with a ceremony. The co-operating parties have invested more than 1.2 bn HUF in the new building, and, with this, into the future of education and research.
In the building, a piece of brake-testing equipment representing state-of-the-art technology is installed, and online wear-testing that is unique in Hungary will become possible. It will not only serve education purposes, but will also make special research and development projects possible in the future.
“In the spirit of the technology of progress, we aim at the leading position in the automotive industry of the world. For this, the intensive transfer of knowledge between economy and industry is essential. “The co-operation between Széchenyi István University and the city of Győr is exemplary,“ said Frank Dreves, member of Audi AG’s Board of Directors responsible for production and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft at the ceremony.
Prof. Tamás Szekeres, the Rector of the Széchenyi István University emphasized: “We are opening new horizons today. The engine-testing laboratory building is a milestone in our co-operation with AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft looking back to a history of several years. We transfer special engineering knowledge complying with the most recent trends. With this, our university remains attractive for the students, we can train talented, highly educated engineers and carry out leading edge researches.”
The Audi Hungaria Internal-Combustion Engines Department, belonging to the Technical Sciences Faculty of the Széchenyi István University, was founded in 2007. Its main scope of activity is engine mechanics and the tribology of internal-combustion engines. The main focal points of this special higher education are practice-orientedness, the development of capabilities beyond the profession and bilingualism. The students, in the course of their studies, regularly take part in the research and development projects of Audi Hungaria.
The new block-testing stand with online wear-testing is unique in Hungary. This technology that is rarely found even in the whole world opens the door to the real-time measurement of the wearing processes of internal-combustion engines, and the results may be represented in a wearing speed curve at every rotary speed and load point.
“The new building symbolizes our jointly used slogan: ‘Future is built in Győr.’ With this step, we invest in the future of the city of Győr, the university and the company. Győr makes another step towards becoming one of the innovation, cultural and economic centres of not only Hungary but also of Europe,” said Zsolt Borkai, the mayor of Győr.
“Our major competence is engine manufacturing, and this will remain so in the future as well. As a manufacturer of innovative engines — over 270 types of power sources — we will need young and talented engineers, because the token for our success is our highly educated colleagues,” emphasized Thomas Faustmann the President of the Board of Directors of Audi Hungaria.
The company is engaged in co-operation with the Department in various professional subjects such as the tribology evaluation of the surface properties of various materials, projects aiming at the reduction of carbon dioxide emission and fuel consumption as well as at friction and wear-testing. In the spring semester of 2011, a series of lectures will be organized for the sixth time in the subject of engine technology organized jointly by Audi Hungaria Engine Development, Audi Akademie and the Department. In the framework of this series of events, lectures have already been given at the Széchenyi István University also by Dr. Wolfgang Hatz, a member of the Board of Directors of the Volkswagen concern, responsible for engine development and Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Lenz the President of the Austrian Society for Automotive Engineers (ÖVK).
